Spending Bank Holiday in Dun Laoghaire

dun laoghaire

The August Bank Holiday just passed by! That day, we spent the entire day in Dun Laoghaire..

With all the upcoming changes to our family, the August Bank Holiday weekend could be our last bank holiday here in Dublin. And because of that, we wanted to make the most of it – by going to places we’ve never been to before. One of those is Dun Laoghaire!

Top things I enjoyed in Seoul!

Changdeokgung

I still think about Seoul. So, let me share the best experiences I’ve had while in there!

Our recent trip to Seoul went by so fast – I wish I could easily go back again! Time flies when you’re having fun – as they say, right?
We spent about 2 weeks in Seoul but I still feel as if I haven’t been around much. Probably because we encountered a couple of challenges traveling with a toddler (you can read a related post here) around Seoul. So, we had to change plans sometimes!

Review: Sika Restaurant

sika restaurant

Included in our Christmas package at Powerscourt is a Christmas eve dinner at Sika Restaurant

During our stay at Powerscourt Hotel last Christmas, it included a pre-booked Christmas Eve dinner at the hotel’s restaurant named Sika. When I was writing my Powerscourt-related posts (you could read about our Christmas Package special here and here), I thought that the Christmas Eve dinner experience deserved its own post. So, here it goes..

Christmas Package at the Powerscourt Hotel experience!

MountainViewSuite Powerscourt Hotel

After the sumptuous Christmas Eve meal at the Sika restaurant in Powerscourt Hotel..

After our fantastic Christmas Eve meal at the Sika restaurant (that I haven’t written a review yet, whoops!), we were so excited about our Mountainview Suite and looked forward to our evening of rest. We didn’t book for any babysitting arrangements and decided to stay inside our hotel room to relax after a short tour of the hotel.

Christmas 2016: Powerscourt Hotel and Estate Day 1

powerscourt

Our Christmas getaway at the Powerscourt Hotel and strolling at the Estate..

We didn’t travel internationally for this year’s Christmas. Instead, we had a staycation at one of the best hotels in Ireland – Powerscourt Hotel. The hotel is situated within very close proximity to one of Ireland’s leading tourist attractions – Powerscourt Estate.
I have been to the Estate on my first year in Ireland but this is the first time for me to stay in the hotel. So, I was really looking forward to Christmas since the hotel is operated by no less than Marriott! 🙂

AirBnb Personal Experience: Our Galway accommodation

Galway

So, this is what we experienced in our AirBnb accommodation in Galway

Disclaimer: All opinions are my own and from my personal experience with the AirBnb accommodation/owner. I will also not indicate the name of the owner, even if I knew her first name.

On our long weekend trip to Galway, we used AirBnb for our accommodation. I think it was literally a week before the trip that we decided to finally proceed. And if we were to consider booking a hotel for that trip, we can bet that the price would be quite steep, especially as we have to book separate rooms to accommodate us and my friend.
For that trip, we booked a 2-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom/toilet penthouse apartment. There was another 2-bedroom apartment located at the city center we considered that has Wi-Fi but only had one bathroom. We thought that even if we had to pay more in this penthouse apartment and without Wi-Fi, at least we have the convenience of having two bathrooms. Galway and the Oyster Festival

Galway Seafood and Oyster Festival

On the second day in Galway, we went to the Galway Seafood and Oyster Festival

We only stayed in Galway for the long weekend so we had to make the most of our last day to roam around. On our first day, we took a leisure stroll around the city center and visited a number of attractions around. And in case you missed it, you can read my entry here.
The next day, we woke up to a really gloomy weather. I even checked my weather app to see if things will get better. But to my disappointment, that day was expected to receive showers and gray clouds. That didn’t stop us from stepping out, though. We just prepared ourselves by wearing the appropriate outdoor gear to protect us from the rain! Continue reading “Galway and the Oyster Festival” »

Review: Eyre Square Hotel Restaurant

Eyre Square Hotel

Personal dining experience at the Eyre Square Hotel Restaurant..

We recently had a trip to Galway to show a friend around. And because it is only about a 3-hour train ride from Dublin’s Heuston Station, we took the early-ish train to go to Galway. We thought it is the best way to make the most of the city since we were only there for the long weekend – so we wanted to arrive with enough time to walk around before it gets dark. Apart from that, we also took my son’s naptime in consideration so it all made sense to travel in the morning!
Luckily for us, there was a 10:05 AM train to go to Galway. We booked our tickets online and arrived very early inside the station to have breakfast before the trip. The train ride was OK apart from some noisy group of guys onboard the same train car as us. We didn’t go hungry in the middle of the trip since we had a BIG breakfast before the journey started. But boy! We were so hungry when we finally arrived in Galway!
The great thing about Galway’s train station is that it is super close to A LOT of restaurants and pubs. As soon as we stepped outside, we immediately saw a couple of places to eat. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular at that moment – I just wanted to sit and have my meal. But we didn’t take the first restaurant we saw either. We had a look at a couple of “potential” places to have lunch and settled in at the Eyre Square Hotel restaurant instead. Continue reading “Review: Eyre Square Hotel Restaurant” »

Unexpected long weekend trip to Galway!

Galway train

Birthday treat: A trip to Galway!

This year, I didn’t travel internationally as much as I did the previous years I’ve been living in Dublin. I even wrote about my sort of travel hiatus and the local sites we visited in Ireland in lieu of it. And in case you missed it, you may read the related articles here and here! After I posted the entries, I wasn’t expecting to add anything to the list before the year ends. But since a friend came over to visit for a couple of days just in time for my birthday, we made plans to have a weekend getaway to show her around. And luckily for me, we voted to go to Galway – and that’s definitely added to my “where I’ve been to list” for 2016, yay! 🙂  Continue reading “Unexpected long weekend trip to Galway!” »
