Review: Brother Hubbard

Brother Hubbard

A 12-hour fasting for a routine check-up ended well. Thanks to Brother Hubbard..

Brother Hubbard is one of the famous brunch/coffee places in Dublin these days. My husband commented that the coffee industry in Dublin is rapidly growing – all thanks to these trendy coffee places and arrival of various IT companies like Google and Facebook over here.
Unfortunately, Brother Hubbard is not a place I’d consider child-friendly – so we rarely get the chance to eat here. They don’t have high chairs for toddlers not to mention the space is very little – it is hard to get in with a pram. But a few weeks ago, my husband and I left the little one with the nanny since we had a very early morning routine checkup. We were fasting for 12 hours and really hungry – so we decided to eat somewhere nice after.
We arrived a little bit past 11 AM and the place was filled with diners. I think we just missed the busy period or since it was a weekday, most people didn’t sit inside and just grabbed a cup to go. We got our seats almost immediately and given the menu to take a look.

The menu

Brother Hubbard offers middle-eastern cuisine and has generous portions. It was a good thing for me, especially that day since I was really hungry! The menu changes constantly and I chose something I didn’t see before. It was a vegetarian dish so I ordered some chorizo and an avocado (was really famished!) as side dishes. Unfortunately for me, I totally forgot the name of the dish! Eek!

Cute table decor. Look at that vintage pepper mill!

The food arrived really nice and pretty. As expected from Brother Hubbard, the dish was enormous! If it was a different day, I don’t think I’d finish by myself.

A girl’s gotta eat!

I loved my tasty meal! I believe I had some sweet potatoes and chickpeas cooked in a really nice and thick spiced tomato sauce. The addition of the chorizo was a great accompaniment to add some bite and the avocado a zing of flavor! I actually hoped I had more bread to eat the vegetables with, HAHA! Or, that I remembered the name of the dish (sorry!).
You may think that vegetarian meals aren’t filling – nope! In fact, I struggled finishing the the meal when I had a couple (literally) bites left.
I wanted to have a dessert but I think it is gluttony if I even order a pastry. So I ordered a hot chocolate for my drink instead. I normally order coffee when we are here but I just had a cup after I had my blood sample taken so I don’t want another cup.

My dessert drink, LOL!

The drink arrived with my meal but I didn’t drink it until I was finished with my food. It was so wrong to do that! The hot chocolate was super rich and creamy – it is like drinking a decadent brownie! I think chocolate lovers would love this but for me, it was a bit overwhelming.
Despite that, I definitely enjoyed my hearty and very filling meal, especially after the fast. I just hope we get more chances to go here!
